Yuanyang Rice Terrace 2014, a photo from Yunnan, Sud

Photographer's Note

The Yuanyang Terraces are a paradise for photographers. The best time for photography is in February and March. During this period you can catch the prettiest of the terraces, because the rice terraces are filled with water, and every level layer of the terraces is bright with the reflective effects of light and shadow.

This photo was not edited and was taken while waiting for sunset. I composed and waited for the farmers to walk in between the trees before releasing the shutter. The strong reflection on the water fool the meter of the camera. I make the photo like a silohoutte. If you look closely you can see the reflection of the blue sky and some green scrubs on the left bottom corner of the trees.

This photo was taken using Sony A7 with Leica 70-180mm Apo+ 2X Apo converter using the magnifier focusing of the camera

Hello Tony - seems we're neighbors today, yet this shot has been oddly overlooked? A shame, as it's another great example of this rice terrace, this time zoomed on the detail of these two walking out along the narrow land. The contrast and silhouette of the trees against the water gives it a wonderful quality, making it hard to tell where the object begins and the reflection ends; there's an element of painting, or even woodcutting, to it. Thanks for sharing it.

When I saw the thumbnail I expected to see a black and white version of the image you uploaded a few days ago. But it is another, equally beautiful and well composed image. The two silhouettes really make it and the colours are so delicate.
