Wuxi Blue Hour, a photo from Jiangsu, Est

Photographer's Note

A blue hour shot at Nanchansi looking towards the Qing Ming Bridge along the canal. The bridge was unlit at this stage but the scene was too good to ignore so I took a shot anyway. There are dozens of areas like this all around Shanghai, infinitely preferable to the highrise jungle of modern Chinese cities. The fireproof stone horsehead roofs are to prevent fires leaping from townhouse to townhouse.

Splendid blue hour composition. I like the oblique point of view and the long perspective. Ideally exposed with excellent colours and clarity and some lovely reflections.

Hello Chris,
I almost get an impression the red and yellow lights we see here are not mainly meant to look attractive to tourists, but are used by the locals according to traditions. Whatever the purpose they look great, especially in this blue light and lined up like this. Possibly sights like this are getting rarer by the hour in changing China.

Hello Chris,

I have to agree with you about the the attractive nature of this scene, compared with the city scenes.
Your viewpoint is very well chosen, creating a near diagonal across the frame and, at the same time, a fine sense of depth.
The repeating, glowing lanterns are warm and welcoming, especially with their reflections, giving a double impact!

Bonjour Chris,

L'heure est certes bleue mais ce qui ressort le plus c'est le beau rose des lanternes ainsi que la superbe ligne de fuite qui pousse le regard très loin.
Belle composition.

Bonjour Chris,

J'apprécie les reflets de lumière sur l'eau. La ligne diagonale qui est faite par la suite des maisons donne du dynamisme à l'image. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des maisons. Bonne journée.

you know how I feel about your China photos, it makes me want to travel here immediately. Too bad we can't see interior photos of these homes, what a treat THAT would be! What are the 3 large tall stacks in the far bg? Just curious. interesting architecture for sure, and the blue hour light and red lanterns put it over the top. cheers

The canals in Wuxi offer many adventures for any photographer, Chris, which you had taken this marvelously, posting a series of great blue hour and night shots from there.
The blue sky and water reflection under some darkness -0 but still have light, was excellently managed on photo.

Hi Chris,
a good blue hour capture, in a very attractive composition.
I like the deep perspective across the diagonal line of the houses on the canal, the blue tonalities that dominate the scene, and its nice contrast with the golden lights and the red lamps. The reflections of all this elements on the water are wonderful.

Hello Chris, you managed very well the light conditions at the blue hour. The lanterns hanged up to the houses add a romantic atmosphere to the town. The picture shows ancient China far from the huge factories and the skyscrapers. Beautiful architecture.
