Photographer's Note
Construction of the Great Wall started in the 7th century B.C. The vassal states under the Zhou Dynasty in the northern parts of the country each built their own walls for defence purposes. After the state of Qin unified China in 221 B.C., it joined the walls to hold off the invaders from the Xiongnu tribes in the north and extended them to more than 10,000 li or 5,000 kilometers. Photo Kodak 265. I returned two years later with my Olympus E-10 but this site was no longer available.

good idea to put it in this framing. I like writings on the bricks. The picture has a really good quality, well done Arthur!

There is bad framing, good framing and great framing. For me this is great framing. Although the arch actually fills quite a large proportion of the picture it is integral to the picture itself. The Great Wall forms a nice diagonal and there is just enough sky visible above the mountains.
Even what I take to be Chinese graffiti on the foreground arch adds to the overall composition.

A very fine peep through! You have use the arch very well and the wall on the other goes in an interesting angle. I get a bit distracted by the houses at the bottom, I will try a WS.

Wow! Spectacular view, spectacular framing ... and hundred if not thousand years old graffitti!!! It would probably be nicer if you just focused on the Great Wall and crop the non-Great Wall structures at the bottom. I still like the graffitti though (if they are indeed graffitti) :-).

Grand view of the Great Wall. The details are incredible and so is the note. Well seen, thanks for sharing!

I second Keitht's comment on this one; it draws one right from the thumbnail. Great work!
BTW, what do you mean by "this site was no longer available"?

Clever idea ! It's amazing how you could capture the wall in the background, and as well all these details on the stones in the foreground. A nice shot Arthur !

love the shot. is there a chance you can get it when things green up a bit in the background? also, cropping the bottom portion would eliminate the buildings without taking away from the great effect of the framing through the arch.

Gorgeous and just breath taking perspective shot! I love the way you framed it so naturally within the arch, as the inscriptions on it add a lot of exotic hint of this so strange and awesome culture. Very well done!

Great idea and wonderfully executed. I have to agree with Ebbe though: I find the houses in the bottom a bit distracting and thus the cropping in the workshop works better for me.

Wow, the Great Wall of China. Such a massive tangible structure even in picture. Great shot and informative notes.
One of my "wish I was there" destination !

Good shot, the framing could be more centre, but the rest of the shot is perfect, well done.
I will post my great wall of China pics next year when I go home.

A excellent shot of the Great Wall in the snow. I like the way you have the wall 'framing' itself. Good note.

How come it was no longer available? Hope they're no reconstructing the wall.. This is by far the most beautiful, most original capture of the Chinese wall I've ever seen. perfect framing.

Great shot of the Great Wall. I find myself wondering if it might have been better to focus on the wall in the distance rather than the arch. But the arch and its graffiti is interesting to see and the landscape doesn't really need to be in focus to get a sense of it. So I don't know.

Awesome picture. This grabbed me the second I laid eyes on it. Very cool way to add depth to the photo, and very interesting details from both far and near. Your framing is perfect. Great job!

Hi Arthur, Good scene through the archway, makes it very good POV. The scatterred snow increases the intensity of this image. The charahters as grafetti enhance the arch, good details. Well done. Murray.

Olá Arthur!
Great pov. I think the photo could be a little more centered. I like to see the inscriptions on the wall. Thanks for sharing,
Ana
