Photographer's Note

Visitors of Beijing have a very large range of places of interest to visit: the Chinese wall, the Forbidden City, the summer-palace, the mausoleum of Mao, etc. etc. One event that you should not miss, is going to a Beijing opera. Although you can argue about the beautiness of the music; the costumes, make-up and atmosphere should be reasons enough to spend one evening in a cosy small Chinese theatre.
It is really remarkable how local people behave when visiting such a performance. They just keep on chatting and walking and making telephone calls, while the actors are doing their best to enjoy the audience!
In this picture I tried to catch a dramatic moment in one of the pieces. I made use of the light on the podium, which was sufficient to take good pictures with ASA 400 without using a tripod.
