Photographer's Note
Fishermen on bamboo rafts use cormorants to catch fish. The birds have collars on, can't swallow the fish, and bring them to the men in exchange for small pieces.
This shot was taken before dawn on the Li river, about 40 minutes upriver from Xingping, a town near Yangshuo.

Ian,
I have been to Yangshuo many many times and have never taken a photo like this. Composition is gorgeous with the fisherman just where he needs to be and the reflection of his boat and the light are great. The blue tones are gorgeous and although it is misty all the elements are distinct and sharp. Immediately into my favourites.
Congrats

Beautiful. The blue tone is lovely and I love how the hills recede in the background. The silhouette of the fishmerman and the comorant is just perfect.

Georgeous image. The mood is wonderful and the composition is just perfect. This is definately one of the prettiest part of China. Someone told that in fact these limestone peaks feature in one of the Chinese (currency)note.

Great shot, the mist rally give a feeling of atmosphere and the light on the boat provides a nice contrast to the wonerfull blues.

A truly wonderful image of a spectacular place, with all those peaks emerging to different degrees from the mist. The obviously moving raft is very well defined despite the fairly slow shutter speed, and I think the lamp at the back and its reflection are crucial to the success of the shot. You must have rehearsed this! Whatever, it's really great. Why the hell has it not moved more of those 99 viewers so far? It's going into my favourites.

Hello Ian
Absolut fine blue-white picture. Your horizont tilting little, and thats good with boat opposite-angle, they are really sliding to forward.
This boat silhouette works also alone, just only that man and his birds. But with exciting landscape, fabulous wonderful.
I can't find any problem, morning dust gives more feeling, composition works, good balance.

Jussi

Hello Ian
Very interesting subject and your picture is fantastic !
I not a very good control of the exposure and the bamboo raft is very well positionned on a strong point of the frame.
Cheers.

Good morning, Ian, I tried to critique this last night but my computer crashed right in the middle of a sentence! So I am back.. I love the deep and exquisite blue of this scene. You managed a flawless composition with the angles of the shoreline and the raft converging toward the opening in the background; your subject is so well placed that it is the first thing the eye rests on yet it gives an unobstructed view to its magnificent setting.. a very harmonious balance. The mists and the gentle ripples grace it to perfection. I like that the silouhettes of the man and cormorant on the basket are so distinctly shaped. Excellent all around. Congratulations.
Kind regards, Lisa

Hi Ian. Like Macondo, I am absolutely flabbergasted as to why this superbly crafted and evocative piece hasn't scored beyond a hundred points. That light on the boat, the blueness of the atmosphere, the marvellous misty distance and the detail-rich silhouettes of both man and birds are all special- something timeless and poetic. Mesterly work. My sincere regards, Klaudio

Hello Ian,
This is an extraordinary picture taken at teh hour when few people are out with their camera. I appreciate the blue tones, and I wonder if there is a fog often at that hour.
Nabt thanks for the inspiration - Izzet Keribar
