Photographer's Note

Paddy and other fields near Jalpaiguri, a small, sleepy town in West Bengal, in the north eastern part of India. In the background is the river Teesta, one of the major rivers that runs through the states of Sikkim and West Bengal. This part of the river remains almost dry round the year except the monsoons when water is released from the upstream reservoirs.

The title describes this photo very well, leaving me little else to say. I can add that the many tones of green and blueish grey are very pleasing to the eye and that the diagonals created by the small fields give this very quiet scenery an interesting rhythm.

Hello Satya,
a vast view that looks very harmonious but contains many variations in shapes, patterns and green tones. I like very much the expanding perspective and the proportions of landscape and sky. You achieved remarkable clarity in the low light and against a challenging sky, definition is superb all over. Although a lot of work has gone into the cultivation of this land, the vast area looks deserted and so peaceful in this capture. Congratulations and thank you!

Wonderful shades of green, almost every variety seems to be on display here! A great idea to compose this leading line of the smaller river in the foreground. The sky is filled with activity and drama making your photo quite moody. Nicely done :)

Hello Satya,

THis is an informative note about the paddy fields.

You have angled the shot well to give good lead lines across the pleasing greens of the chequerboard fields, whilst the f/g greenery helps with the sense of depth. Is that a goat I see hiding in the vegetation?

I think, maybe a slight crop of the sky would have given a perfect thirds composition.

A nicely balanced shot in exposure despite the grey sky, as well as with placement of vital elements. There's nice detail around to put this into perspective with abundance of vivid green to make the show standout. The distant flat land strengthens this shot extending the depth immensely. Hi Satya,

Good sharpness and the fg rice paddies add a lot of depth to this image. The forest of steel towers on the horizon give a strange juxtapositioning to the green fg. Good colour, sharpness and saturation. Nice repetition of the young rice plants with a soft diffused light throughout. Tfs!

Hi Interesting view of these small paddy fields. They have always such nice fresh green. How hard must be the work of seeding the plants. The river is very wide hear, strange that the area is dry in other time of the year.
