Gangasagar pilgrimage and fair is the second largest congregation of mankind after the holy Kumbha Mela. Gangasagar fair and pilgrimage is held annually on the Sagar Island, in the southern tip in the Ganges delta atop the Bay of Bengal, Every year on the day of Makar Sankranti (mid of January), lakhs of Hindus gather to take a holy dip in the confluence of Ganga and offere puja in Kapil Muni Temple. This island is a famous Hindu pilgrim place. This place is arround 150 kms from the nearest City Kolkata. Hindus from various part of the country assemble during this time in this part of India. Before going to the Mela they rest at Kolkata. This picture was taken at such a gathering of Naga Sadhus who are naked (Digambar, or "sky-clad") Sadhus from the Himalayas who are non-shaven and have thick dreadlocks, and Jata, carry swords. These holy men have renounced everything in their quest for God.
