Nice sequence of photographs Biswajit. I appreciate your son's observation too. Let me take this opportunity to share with you that this bird is a 'coppersmith'. It is very common in West Bengal, India. What it is doing here is peeping inside a hole in the trunk of a beetle nut tree (supuri gaach in Bengali) which in all probability it has turned into its home. These birds lay their eggs and hatch them in such holes. Why don't you along with your son observe this particular bird and see what happens in future? Please ensure that you observe from far and the bird does not feel in secured due to your presence; else it might fly away for ever leaving behind unhatched eggs. All the best.
