Photographer's Note

Pangong Tso is a saline water lake situated 160 kms. away from Leh. It is about 5 hrs drive from Leh through rough dramatic mountain road. One has to cross the "ChangLa Pass" to reach the Lake. Chang La is the third highest drivable pass in the world.
Pangong Tso in Tibetian means "Long narrow enchanted Lake". It covers an area of 604 sq. km. It is situated at an height of 4,350 meter. Almost 60% of the lake lies in China and the rest lies in India. It supports quiet a few wild life in and around the area for eg. Bar-headed geese, Brahmini ducks, Marmots and Kiangs (Tibetian wild ass).
An Inner Line Permit is required to visit the lake as it lies on the Sino-Indian Line of Actual Control. The tourist office in Leh issues the permits for a small fee. Pangong Tso is a delicate border point along the Line of Actual Control. Incursions from Chinese side are common.
The beautiful Pangong Tso Lake was featured in the last scene of the blockbuster movie ‘3 Idiots’ in the year 2009. After the success of the movie, this beautiful natural location has been a major attraction for tourists from all over the globe.
