Photographer's Note

Back in april 2013 we were on a month-long trip through parts of Uttarakhand. We reached the little town called Munsiyari through small winding breathtaking roads. The town itself is located at an elevation of about 2,200 m and is a starting point of various treks into the interior of the surrounding high mountain ranges.

We decided to do a 2 day trek (possible maybe in 1 day if you start early) to Khaliya Top. The path went steadily upwards through rhododendron forest, that was at that time in full bloom.

There were still some ice and snow fields along the way and we stayed the night in some abondoned guest house. We pitched the tent inside one of the empty rooms, because it was freezing outside. The next morning we wanted to go to the top at around 3,500 m, but had to skip that due to some serious stomach problems we got over night. :-( We felt too tiresome and thought its not worth taking the risk to go over more snow fields, while not feeling strong enough. Instead we spend the time waiting in front of the guest house enjoying the view as seen on this picture.

The views were just breathtaking! This picture shows the Hansling peak in a beautiful morning light. I hope you get a glimpse of the feeling we had while watching it.
