Photographer's Note
Kathakali is a traditional dance from the south Indian state of Kerala. Embedded in stories from the epics, Ramayana, Mahabharata and from the Puranas, the dance form is believed to have originated in the 16th century. Kathakali can be described as a highly stylized classical Indian dance-drama, noted for the heavy make-up and stunning costumes of the dancers, as you can see in this image. Detailed gestures and well-defined body movements (presented in tune with anchor playback music and complementary percussion) are some other notable features of the dance. Elaborate masks, huge skirts and big head-dresses are uniquely used by the performers of Kathakali.
Taken inside a dark auditorium with spotlights acting as the only light source. Hence the higher ISO.

Kathakali in Munnar !? I'm surprised. I saw one performed in Cochin and in Munnar I saw the tea plantations. And both are sweet memories to me
Quite a close up portrait here Sabyasachi, razor sharp and really so representative of this art
Have a nice day
Patrick
Looks like you're in the process of a more permanent come back. I'm very glad you do. Dhanyavad

Hello Sabyasachi,
A great portrait of this dancer with his scary make-up. The compelling stare from his eyes really seems to bore into you. He stands out beautifully from the dark background, helped by superb colours and sharpness.

Hi Sabyasachi,
Visually a very strong and powerful image. Though may be uneasy to look at at times, but that is because there is so much details and strong graphical elements. The colors so rich and deep in tone. Great close up POV and really well balance composition. Excellent shot.
