Photographer's Note

In the shrine of Dargah Khwaja Sahib,
there is two massive degs (cauldrons), originaly donated by Mughal Emperore, Akbar and Jahangir, but replaced in 19th century.
These are placed in the courtyard and the ritual rice is cooked in them. The smaller deg has a capacity of about 2240 Kg and the larger one is about 4480 Kg of rice.
The looting of deg is a unique ritual, as professional "looters" empty the deg in minutes and even jump in the steaming deg. This "loot" is then sold as tabarruk (sanctified food) by the looters.

If you are interested to see inside the cauldron, I sugest to see the Rakesh Gupta´s photo (Hope he dosen´t mind) in this site, as he got a nice shot at same place, (http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/India/photo324492.htm), and I am sorry I do not know how to links the photos.

Best Wishes!
Jamal
