Photographer's Note
On the final day of the Pushkar Camel Fair I woke before dawn and hiked up to the Savitri Temple to watch the sun rise. Returning to the town I still had an hour to spare before catching the bus back to Delhi. I decided to pop into one of the many cafes that surround the lake (I think it was Sanjay Restaurant). As I waited for my breakfast a procession of langur monkeys came running and jumping across the rooftops. There were perhaps thirty of them in all sizes and ages. I was down to my last two exposures but managed to get this shot. Photography over for the day I sat and watched for ten minutes until the parade finished. No one else was around.

Vow ! Till today I would think of Pushkar Fair - and a picture of Camels in silhoutte would come in my mind only. But this is really GRRRREAT. Hope you could go close more to your subject, would be nice. Hazy city in the background adds more impact.

I love the movement in these 'haloed' and silhouetted monkeys running along the wall of the bulding and offsetting the misty morning cityscape behind in its subdued palette.
For me the original is the better image, maybe a touch rotated but no extra cropping, it makes it look like the monkey wall is superimposed on another background.
Oh! and welcome to TE, by the way!
Cheers

Excellent shot, Richard! I think that you should enter this in a competition in a UK-Wildlife Photographer of the Year category. It is well exposed and the composition, colors and sharpness are worthy of an entry.

Well lucky you good capture with a good title
I like the background also,

Hi Richard
Very nicely seen and captured!
The three ones are special here, and add to the composition.

The monkeys are great, but that misty background just makes it all come together. I think I would have cropped out some of the wall on the bottom though

The monkeys look really good there in silhouettes with a bit of sunlight in the furs. The repetition of poses in the two first is great. The city lost in the mist behind gives this a very nice feeling. I think I would crop a bit more on bottom and top.

This is a wonderful catch. The monkeys, the light, the fog. But I think a crop would have worked better since the wall doesn't add much to the composition. In fact it's quite distractive.

Great photograph. Everything works for me in this composition. I like the way the monkeys seem like silhuettes on a fading degrading layer.

Great capture and composition, the distant backround helps to emphasize the silouettes of the monkeys! Excellent shot!

Superb. Exposure spot on and the town through the mist behind the monkeys is absolutely magical. Even the langurs retain a small amount of detail and have magical highlights. Well composed, with the main elements dividing the frame into three. The best photo I have seen on TE in a long while and one that is really breathtaking - well done! Potential competition winner here!

Great shot and captured at the right moment...the third monkey being in a different posture breaks the pattern well. I don't think you need to crop, as the 1:2 ratio between the wall and the misty city adds scale and depth to your image.

Lucky you! For some reason, monkeys seem to come in large group only when you have almost no more shots left (it happened to me in Costa Rica). Well balanced. I too would slightly crop the bottom, too...

beautiful sylhouettes, and I especially like the fog in the background. nice lighting and contre-jour effect. i don't like the 'things' at the bottom of the wall - maybe cropped and perhaps landscaped (would loose though the top of the hills). I like that the houses have details, and are not that lost in the fog. nicelly done.

Wow, that's an amazing shot. Perfect 3-thirds composition, beautiful light and fog, and what a catch! I can't believe you only took two shots and it came out so nice.
I have to disagree on the critiques which suggest a crop; I think it makes the image look unbalanced if you get rid of the bottom 1/3. Maybe clone out the pipes instead?

hi Rich
good and unique composition... I love the hazy backdrop as then the focus is totally on the monkeys... I know that it was not in ur control but did you hope for the monkeys to be equidistant from each other... or did you wait for the third to come in the the same posture as the first two??? how long was the wall??? if short, then you hardly must have had any time to click this...

Belle image reposante et amusante à la fois. J'aime le mouvement dans la silhouette des singes et les couleurs des maisons qui commencent à émerger de la brume derrière.

Hello Rich ,
There are plenty of monkeys around in India, but seldom have I seem a picture that depicts them in such an elegant way.
The fog over the city is a great background too. It becomes magical !

Great composition on blue and grey colors.
I like the line formed by the wall, the city under the fog and the three monkeys in back-light which run on the walls. Beautiful colors, morning light and sharpness.

Amazing picture. The original is much better than all workshops. I don't know why everyone wanted to crop the blue in the bottom. In this case, I find it essential to balance the white fog.

Hi Rich, great lighting and composition here, it's like the monkeys are on a stage and the fog is a curtain partially obscuring the background. I just love the different poses of the three monkeys!
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Rich,
An outstaning capture, foggy and laid back Pushkar is my favorite gateaway, but suddenly the annual fair makes it fluttering with life and colors. You could have cropped the photograph though from the bottom by half at least, its causing much irritation and distracting the viewer.
Cheers.

Hi Rich,
Brilliant layered composition and contrast between monkeys in sharp counter-light and hazy Pushkar and the mountains in the background.
Since the scene with nimble monkeys changed super fast, you were lucky to catch this.
An original and memorable shot!

Hi Richard!
What a lovely and funny scene:).
I like also the colour and saturation contrast between the background - city covered with fog and those three small creatures which shapes are so visible on that background.

Beautiful shot of the misty morning. Yes, langoors are ubiquitous in some parts of India.
