Photographer's Note

This is one of the inner chambers of The New Ralong Monastary just 2 km from Borong, Sikkim.
Entry inside the New ralong Monastary was restricted when we visited the place since a very auspicious festival was taking place at that time. After trying in vain to enter the beautiful monastary for quite sometime we requested a monk to let us in and show us around. The young monk took pity on us and sought permission from one his senior teachers who nodded in approval.
As the young monk led us inside we got to know him better. He was just 25 or 26 yrs old, his name was Chuim and had come from Gangtok to attend this festival and to seek blessings from The Karmapa. He was an ex-student of this monastary and so knew his way around pretty well.
The monastary had many rooms and this was one of the inner chambers where deities of Lord Buddha were kept along with photographs of His Holiness The Dalai Lama and other great buddhist teachers.
It was like entering into a different time zone .. the room was ablaze with a soft orangish-yellow light and smell of butter-ghee and inscence sticks saturated the air. As Chuim explained the meanings of the different postures of Lord Buddha, various inscriptions, Thankas and paintings we couldnt stop ourselves from being wonderstruck by the variety of artwork and colours all around us.
Initially I wasnt allowed to take photos but later on Chuim said I could take some. Due to the initial restriction of taking photos I didnt bother to fetch my tripod from the car. I regretted this decision later as almost all the inner chambers were scantilly illuminated.
I had to shoot handheld with a low shutter speed and feared shakes. Many shots were blurred. This is one of the better ones. Hope you will like it.
