Abyss, a photo from Himachal Pradesh, Nord

Photographer's Note

The summit of an unnamed and unclimbed peak in the Kinnaur Kailash range said to be over 6500 metres in height. The summit has a very strange shape, it a seems a large bite has been taken from the side of this mountain by some large giant. Technically it should be a difficult climb to the top.
The fresh snow at the top is melting as the first rays of the sun light up the summit.

Hello Subho,
The title of this photo made me think of the deep blue sea, and from the thumbnail that looked possible. Although being the contrary this is still to me a view of unknown, mystical territory, a bit frightening but deeply fascinating. I admire the shapes and colours and feel great respect for this kind of unhospitable environment. It is also a well taken photo which captures the natural beauty and danger very well.

the mountain is quite formidable but nevertheless very beautiful and majestic. You captured these qualities very well in this tight framed photo. The limited colors suit the image very well and I also enjoy very good sharpness.

Hello Subho - This is a fine detail shot and I love the feeling of nature's power that you convey here.

We can see very clearly the action of the wind on the snow as it throws fine snow-dust into the air and creates ripples across the snowy surface.

The word abyss summons up instantly a feeling of fear, a place where man should not be and if he goes, he will not return. This image compliments that feeling very well, as this looks a desolate and lonely place. Albeit so, it is still a beautiful place too. You caught this under magical light, and the snow blowing in the centre of the abyss is a really nice detail.

Subho, when I saw the title, I assumed this was an underwater photo, especially with the blue tones. So it is quite surprising, and beautiful. Wonderful clarity, and very moody and mysterious. Thanks.

Wonderful photograph of this wild place, beautifully composed and framed. Yet for me it could be better yet: the shadows seem a little blocked up (snow often under-exposes, as the camera's meter is programmed on the assumption that scenes contain 18% grey; most do, but snow scenes don't) and the pervasive blues contain too much magenta for my taste. Hope you don't mind a WS to offer an alternative interpretation.
