Photographer's Note
Looking at my India gallery, trying to choose a photo to post, I came across this one and many others that I totally forgot about.
So why not post it right? I spent hours here at the Taj Mahal, it didn't disappoint at all. There were no clouds, all blue skies, no rain, not too hot, it was pretty darn close to perfect. Not sure if I lucked out or maybe its like this more often than not.
Anyways, I enjoyed this scene of locals hanging out on the ledge, perhaps waiting for their loved ones to finish up so they can get home again :)
Hope you like it

Hello Craig,
I think you have posted several other photos before from the Taj Mahal that were quite different from the usual shots. I liked those more personal compositions, and I like this one, where the fabulous building gets strong competition for attention from the rows of colourful people. I enjoy seeing the individual postures of the nearest ones, while the long line of people on the higher platform provide great bright contrasts to the shining white marble. As usual you handled the strong light perfectly.
Thanks for your comments a short while ago,
Gert
PS I think there is a slight misspelling in the title.

Hello Craig, this looks even better in the large version.
The people in the background give us an excellent idea of the scale of the building, it is vast! ( Having never been there, I can only refer to pictures such as yours.)
The decoration on the stonework is amazing.
The people provide little splashes of colour, which show really well against the pale stone.
Excellent composition.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Craig,
Isn't it fun, searching archives!
You find scenes that you had forgotten about, scenes that bring back treasured memories and you wonder why you never posted them!
This is a lovely scene from India.
Apart from the obviously interesting subject, it is really well composed, the figures, in their colourful clothes giving two lines of contrast, against the lace-like details of the building.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
:-) you did post this photo before with the title 'chillin' at the Taj' in 2016. Well, this one is much better quality.
I could spent the whole day at the Taj Mahal if I may allowed. Iconic sight with the Royals who visited there. The close-up details is amazing - simplicity designed with natural colours.
What interesting were the women in their striking Sarees.
India is one of my travel-list but the 'culture-shock' frightened me.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Craig,
The famous Taj Mahal presented in an original way.
Very nice picture with the visitors on two different levels and most of them dressed very colourfully.
The photo is excellently cropped while we can fully enjoy the artful aspect of the white marble mausoleum.

Hi Craig
Fabulous light a great shot of this iconic building with lots of detail on the white marbles. The visitors, back and forth are superb addition as scale ref as well as a colour contrast. It's still a classical view, something to behold though captured millions of times!! Congrats

Hello Craig,The groups of people in colourful clothes provide the scale. Taj Mahal is so huge, it is difficult to realize it. We can see some details of the decorations. I haven't notice earlier the Arabic script.

Hi Craig
Well, I can tell you what it's like in mid-January, which is not far from the time you were there. The weather was perfect, quite misty in the morning and then cloudless and sunny later. I spent a lot of time at the Taj and nothing about it was disappointing, loved every bit of it.
So, weather may be always great but you don't always get people forming a perfect foreground group. With the tiny colourful dots in the background, this is a wonderful composition.
Best wishes
Kasia
Ps. I'm planning to dedicate my next post from Afghanistan to. :-)

Hello Craig,
Wow, the many amazing details and textures of the magnificent architecture look fantastic and you captured everything perfectly and in a great sunlight. Lovely play of light and shadows, too. The many people are well included and the bright colours of their clothes stand out well.

Hi Craig, i like this one a lot. It's a struggle to find an original take on such a photographed building but you did it well here. I like the two rows of people which provide both a look at Indian dress and the scale of the Taj. cheers, Steve

Craig, the grandiose monument in marble forms a splendid background. Some visitors take rest after having explored the vast site. The clothes add colorful tints to the picture. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Craig,
This is fantastic. Most photos of Taj Mahal show the whole building, but then the details are too small to be appreciated. And often it also looks overexposed making details even harder to see. This one is just right with off center framing and all. And it is good to see the people up there to understand how huge this place is.

Hi Craig.
Magnificent scene with all these natives, perhaps resting from their visit to the wonderful Taj Mahal, to which we all spend hours, the color of the saris stands out from the beautiful marble facade of it, as an ideal background for the scene.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this precious image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Craig,
Excellent photo giving us a different view to the usual grand vista looking along the pond to the building. Here we get to see some of the wonderful decorative details in the Taj Mahal, and we see that the marble is not pure white but its own texture (marbling is the term). Good light control results in no over exposure of the blinding white facade. I love the splashes of colour provided by the women's clothes.
