Photographer's Note
First of all, these 3 photos were taken from a higher up position looking down.
This is one of those TE posts where its more about the experience than the photo itself.
We were offered to spend an evening with our Taxi Driver's family! Very friendly I must say. How could we say no?
We got to meet our drivers wife, his 3 children, his brother and their entire family, it was quite the event. And we were the guests of honour.
The families lived in this home, one on the bottom floor, one on the top floor. Obviously i'm taking these photos from the top floor.
When I looked down, I saw this action going on. Another family working folding and washing laundry.
I had to ask...what's going on? Well, the taxi driver has a business out of his home...he pays these people you see in the photo to wash laundry, and of course he gets an income out of it.
In the WS photo you can see the 'boss' standing, and next to him sitting with a baseball cap is my taxi driver. I was surprised to see one of the people washing the laundry was a Man! It's certainly not to be meant as a sexist comment, its just that in India and many other places around the world, usually you would see only women performing such tasks. It was refreshing to see.
Anyways, we had a great dinner, met a lot of people, I learned a lot about their culture and customs, and had lots of fun playing with their children.
Hope you like this one.

Hi Craig,
You have captured well the woman folding a piece of line, The point of view is showing the details of the clothings to be wash. The light is giving good colours output. Have a nice day.

Hi Craig
Outdoor laundry is a common sight in India, lovely everyday mundane subject we've got here showing glimpses into other people's lives. Someone from above pops up with a camera!! You have such a knack for taking an ordinary situation and making it sing with your effective crop and viewpoint. A different take on laundry turning it to an artwork. Great shot
Best regards

Hello Craig,
It took me a few seconds to adjust my eyes to this. It looked like a strange wall before I identified the woman. This is why I find pictures taken from straight above so fun. Everything looks so strange and surprising. And this wouldn't have been India without a lot of colours. The WS are fun too, and of course your experience of this evening with locals was most fun of all. I had a similarly interesting evening with a Turkish bus driver and his extended family long ago.
Thank for your comments on my photo. The beige/yellow things in the background were straw mats, probably used as a fence around... something.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig,
From the thumbnail, your photograph looked like patterns of oils on water! It was a great surprise when I opened it!
I feel like saying the same as I did to Kasia, aren't these people so very kind and friendly. They need little encouragement to invite people into their homes and share a meal as well as meet the family!
Your photographs show life and household activities from an unusual viewpoint. The laundry seems very arbitrary! I remember Paul showing lots of photographs of an Indian laundry and THE MOST surprising thing was that people managed to get their clothes back from seemed like an unregulated system!
Love that you have managed something so unusual.
Have a lovely Sunday,
Bev :-)

Hi Craig, the main photo is so particular that at the first impact I had thought of a mural made in 3D..ehehe ... then the presence of the woman made me understand. Three nice souvenir photos from this evening at the taxi driver's house, it seems that you didn't have intestinal problems, so a great experience! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig, Interesting note. It happened to me too several times that I was invited to see home and have some meal - in Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazachstan, ... In Dubai I was even given two abazas. These are the moments to remember. More probable to happen when I travel alone, rather not when I am in the group, even small. Funnz view from above of all these colourful tissues. It would be interesting to see the family at home.
Best regards MAlgo

A very good photo from this higher point looking down towards the small courtyard where the woman was busy doing the laundry. The many items of clothing around nicely lying around adding lots of fine colours. Well spotted!

Hello Craig,
In Mumbai I visited the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, a gigantic laundry where both men and women worked.
See the WS of my picture at https://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=7&p=1550009
I can hardly imagine that in our western countries men would do this kind of work. Of course it's true that the division of labour between men and women in India is usually different than in the west.
The laundry is particularly colourful in your photos, just like Indian society.
Nice to see these scenes from above.
Best regards, Paul

Bonjour, cher Craig,
J'ai beaucoup aimé la note qui nous fait comprendre la vie quotidienne.
De plus, les prises de vue sont très bonnes et ce mélange de linges aux couleurs vives donne à l'ensemble un tableau vivant.
Amitiés.

Hi Craig
I find it shocking you waited 5 (FIVE!) years to share this. And if not for Covid19 and the related break from travelling you may have not even uploaded these photos at all!
What a wonderfully refreshing set of non-touristy real-life amazing-experience set of shots. Where you say the post is about the experience not the photo - I have to disagree. The photos are brilliant - love the pov, the compositions and the colours.
Perfect TE post - great photos, wonderful experience and we, the viewers, have learned something new (at least I have, ok, Gert probably knows all about these laundry arrangements already). :-)
Best wishes
Kasia
Ps. This goes to my favs of course.

Hi Craig.
The perspective from above makes a very curious effect, what amount of clothes to select and deliver to the owners, it sure was a very interesting experience for you, living the life of an Indian family from within.
Very good color that highlights the image.
Superb brightness and sharpness management, to enjoy the details.
Very well done. I like it.
Have a good start to the week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

craig
in the main post looks like the women is putting some order in the clothes, but they don't use a flat iron I presume. nice these flagrants of the local daily life. I remember in india I saw many works did by people that aren't do here, but I guess they have so many people that the salary of people is so low that are cheaper than using a machine. I remember I saw many women taking stones from a side to other or breaking stones with a hammer, here this job would be a fortune I presume as it would in in canada..
take care

Craig, nice view from above of this laundry service. The clean clothes are folded in a corner whereas the dirty clothes are waiting on the floor. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
