Photographer's Note

Pathways in the Himalayas are categorised in a number of ways. The easiest to walk on are called 'jeepable' though these are likely to be rather flat and lacking in interest. Next up are the 'muleable' roads (such as this one in the upper Chandra valley) along which it is possible for a mule to travel. These I like best as they are likely to be broad and, though sometimes exposed, they lack the hard scrampling steepness of the most difficult ('goatable'?) routes. On mulable roads it is possible to relax, to enjoy the walking and to look up at the snow-capped peaks which surround you on all sides.
