Photographer's Note
Back to the Curzon trail.
While leaving the village of Pana, we had amazing views over the valley on the right side of the trail. Meanwhile some strange beautiful trees with expressive shapes began to appear on the sides of the path, before we turned left and began to descend into the forest.
I thought that those twisted branches could give a good B&W version, but in the end I still decided to choose this version. The guy on the path, was our guide.
WS1 - B&W version
WS2 - B&W cropped version

Hola Ricardo.
Yes. Amazing view from this place. The depth and the composition are really good and also the presence of the man (he gives to us a real perspective of this place).
The link and both WS are good too, and with them we can make and feel the same travel that you did.
Thanks for share.

I like the contrast between the dark, shadowy foreground and the brightness of the backdrop of tree-covered mountains. The placement of the figure is perfect, you caught him just as he was moving from darkness into light.
I had a look at the other versions, and while it works well in B&W, I have to say I prefer it in colour. The cropped version hasn't worked, I prefer the man placed further towards the edge of the frame like we have here.
Good work Ricardo, I like it.
Cheers,
Ben

Olá Ricardo,
I would not say it is interesting itself. But it is interesting as it looks completely strange, unusual - by the composition. And by the way these trees were grown. And by the shadows on the ground. And the balance of dark and bright colors. And the scale we get by your guide. I must force me to have a look on the background :D

Hello, Ricardo--
i like what you saw here, composing the twisted trees nicely, and leaving the man seeming very small. i feel like this one could have been pretty dramatically underexposed, though, to send the trees to silhouette and hold some form in the distant mountains without losing too much detail in the foreground. i really like your first black and white, but feel that you would have needed to underexpose to hold the top ridgeline in a little bit stronger, as the current version lacks contrast.
Thanks!

The depth of the place is enhanced by your framing with the trees. Indeed your experiments with desaturation works well & I like the B&W version. To be honest I like the closeup/cropped version a lot perhaps because the man is larger. But this is good...good photography & experiments/variations in PP..well done my friend on all counts.

Hi Ricardo,
Judicious to have taken in photograph with this original and almost strange landscape, your guide. Beautiful management of the light which gives pretty photographs in black and white. Beautiful and graphic image, great work, cheer.

Marvellous graphism of the repetitive gnarled dark branches against the lighter sky. Excellent sharpness & colour. The lone man adds scale. Tfs!

Isto é a "introdução"?

A tua conversão é linda. E para de cropar as fotos. Detesto crops! :) A composição é muito boa e aquele trekkie ali... excelente. Voto na versão a P&B.

Hi Ricardo,
The form is a wonderful decoration to this splendid picture, also the both WS are very well. It's a very difficult picture for taking, this through it backlight in the sky.
You did very well the man addition this for the scale. Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice day,
John.

Olá Ricardo
The trees have been well framed - I like how they fill the frame. They have attractive graphical qualities. Unusually for me, I prefer the WS2 shot which tends to fill the frame to the full. I like your experimentation.
Best wishes

Hi Ricardo,
This would have been a beautiful picture even with these odd shaped trees spreading their branches but its the lone trekker who adds a different perspective to this shot. I prefer the colour version though WS 2 won't be too far behind for the intelligent crop.

I can't decide which I prefer. You know I am a colour person but the B&W really emphasises the strangeness of the trees and also takes the attention away from the oe in the sky, especially the cropped one, which has an almost abstract look. I'm wondering if there was anything that could be done for better exposure of the sky; either a grad filter or locking the exposure on the sky before recomposing. The latter would possibly have made the trees darker still, but you may have been able to lighten them with PP. It's all academic now as you will probably not be going back. I love the composition with the inclusion of the guide and it is a very worthy post which has made me think.

Hi Ricardo,
I like your image very much. The trees fill the frame with a great interesting in the foreground. The perspective to the mountains is excellent and adding more. The walking man is the big bonus for the composition and for your eye not to loose the opporunity included him in the same.I enjoy it!

Hej Ricardo,
The addition of the guide was really a good choice and he looks good as he is standing there on the path in front of the valley. The bright light gives such a nice hazy effect and of course I also like the trees. Very well done!

Bonjour, mon ami Ricardo,

Hello Ricardo,
This is truly a lovely shot, with the man on the side giving it scale. The composition is first rate, and so is the exposure. The trees, can they be cork trees, so famous in Portugal?
Warm regards,

Buen trabajo.
Un saludo,
Josep
