Photographer's Note

...nearly 40.000 to 50.000 Bornean orangutan are still alive at the moment, most of them living in the indonesian part of Borneo, on Kalimantan. In about 10-15 years the orangutan will be extinct, the uprooting of the rainforest on Borneo is increasing rapidly, more than in any other part of the world. 30 years before, in Borneo nearly 94% of the area, have been rainforest, now in just 30 years (!) only 40% have been remained. The tempo of the uprooting is that fast, that everybody who is flying per airplane from Jawa to Kalimantan will see the fire nearly everywhere.
After the uprooting, mostly they plant palm oil trees, a plant who is rapidly destroying the soil. After 10-15 years nothing more than desert will remain, on an island with the third-largest rainwood in the world. The Oran Utang will not survive this game, unless we will help them.
On http://www.bos-deutschland.de/ you can buy a piece of rainforest and you will help Dr. Willi Smits who is fighting for the rainforest in Kalimantan and for the oran utang since nearly 20 years.
