Photographer's Note
Omotesando - Tokyo.
Omotesando - Tokyo.
some of the pictures shot by Cristian (tomescuc) in Omotesando had caught my eye and I decided to go and see this part of Tokyo for myself last week. unfortunately when I got there most of the good light was gone and taking pictures of people would have been a challenge for my D80, so I had a look at the various buildings in the area. Omotesando is kind of a showcase for modern architecture as well as "the" address for contemporary fashion - some of the most prestigious and trendy designers have their stores here. what you see in the picture is Prada flagship store, a project by Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron which opened its doors in 2003. it is also one of the most photographed buildings in Omotesando.
as the light was waning, I decided to enhance what was left of the sunlight and focused on the glass panels; I set my camera to an underexposure of 0.7 to get a darker sky (which luckily for me was very blue that day) and after the b/w conversion this is the result I got.
this is also one of the first shots taken with my new 24mm lens, for which I have to thank Francis (housegaijin) - I had the pleasure of meeting him in Tokyo and he gave me some good advice on where to find reliable used photo equipment. I must say that being a lover of prime lenses, I left Tokyo a very happy person that day :)

Cristina, a bold attempt in very difficult conditions that almost pays off. Unfortunately, I don't find that the solid black tones at the base of the frame help to lead the eye in and, although there is an interesting lattice of windows above, it quickly retreats into blur so arresting the movement of the eye once more. Nearly but not quite.

I like this attempt. The idea is really extraordinary.

Ciao Cristina,
sai che Marco Polo al tuo confronto era nessuno :) anche se Nessuno era Ulisse? Ehehehe!
Ottimo l'effetto grafico ottenuto qui.
Bianco e nero gestito bene come sempre.
TFS!

Ciao Cristina, come sempre rimango affascinata dalle tue immagini e contrariamente a redc riesco a vedere perfettamente le zone d'ombra. Come spieghi tu può essere dunque un problema di monitor. Scatto eccellente!!A presto, Ade

Hi Cristina,
this is a nice try. I'm not totally convinced though. Maybe using a tilt would give a little more dynamism or like REdcrown said, this dark bit at the bottom is a bit much...Still It's good to try now things!

Hey Cristina,
I must say I am not into architectural shots anymore (I used to do them too), but I like the strict geometry in this one coupled with the repetitive architectural motif shaped by light into a variety of interesting patterns. Glad you enjoyed Tokyo and particularly Omotesando -- when I was there it was a furnace.
cheers,
Cristian
