Photographer's Note

Here is a narrow alley named Pontocyo street of Kyoto, and is running 500m north-south. And then this street still remain unique and tasteful atmosphere of old times.
I stop by here without fail when i come back to Kyoto, and here is my most favourite street in Kyoto.

Pontocho is one of Kyoto's traditional nightlife districts where you might be able to spot a geisha apprentice at night. It is a narrow street running from Shijo-dori to Sanjo-dori, one block west of the Kamo River.
In the evenings, the narrow street offers a great atmosphere and lots of restaurants and teahouses, ranging from inexpensive yakitori stores to highly exclusive establishments which require the right connections and a fat wallet.
There have a history of 135 years in this street.
The etymology of the name of a place named "Pontocyo" is assumed to be in ponta of Portuguese (mind of "Ahead") according to one theory ahead.
