Photographer's Note

Recently I've been getting into square format cameras. After using 35mm cameras for so long I'm finding I really need to change my mindset to make my photos work! It's fun. I like how the square photos really pull everything into frame and the cool effect a slight twist of the camera can make.
The tower in the backgroung is an Osaka landmark based upon the eiffel tower. That thing in the top foreground is a restaurant mascot for the infamous poisonous blow fish that is considered a delicacy here! This part of town is called 'Shinsekai' - which means New World - and is considered a fairly seedy part of Osaka, although in the last few years it has cleaned it self up considerably. Now on the weekends the old school style restaurants and bars attract quite a few young local tourists. The food is good and cheap, the atmosphere lively and you can rub shoulders with the more shadier characters of downtown Osaka!
