Photographer's Note

Shinzo Abe, the current prime minister of Japan says he is aiming for the vision of "a beautiful country, Japan". I don't understand what he actually wants to say by the word "beautiful". But it seems not mean the "beautiful landscape".

Is Japan "beautiful" now?

Yes, it's beautiful, I think. But I must recognise that a lot of eyesores have been reducing its beauty.

Recently, national and local governments begin to make stricter building-codes for aesthetic purposes. But they haven't made a discernible progress yet, except a few notable exceptions.

An American orientalist Edwin O. Reischauer said, "The Japanese are sensitive to beauty but are insensitive to ugliness". I hope it's not true.....
