Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan. It was the capital city before the seat of power was moved to Astana. Almaty is still known as the "southern capital".

The name Almaty is widely known to be from the Kazakhs word for apple ("alma"). Or possibly from the Turkish, Hungarian or Monggolian influence (also "alma" for apple).

Enjoyed a beautiful winter scene in the hills overlooking Almaty city here.

Great seasonal landscape image. When I am in Winter seasn, I hope Winter go away soon. But when Winter is out, I misss Winter, that is so strange--
So well considered framework and composition image.

Hello Sam,
I really love the hazy and undoubtedly very cold view over the city of Almaty. The mountain range in the background looks also great. Good foreground composition with the inclusion of the trees and snow.

Hello Sam,

The misty atmosphere cares for, that we the city see a little bit mysticism.
But a very well panorama view about the area.
Light and colours are pleasant to look at.
Very well composition lovely presentation too.

Amazing view. The winter prevalence is well depicted, and I like the distance felt in the picture, with the dry trees in the middle. A work of art, congratulations!

Hello Sam,
I know Alma Ata especially from the time was the fastest ice rink for speed skating of the world. At the end of the skate season all top-skater went to Alma Ata and tried to skate a new world record.
But I can also remember that the weather was unreliable and could change within a few moments.
I think your marvelous picture shows that a little.
