Photographer's Note

From Vientiane to Luang Prabang in the north of Laos runs the so called "Highway No 13" which rather should be called the mother of all potholed roads. Perhaps 15%-20% of this Highway is asphalted the reminder is a bad dirt road with countless potholes. It is a very dusty affair as the photograph in the small hamlet Houay Dokmai shows. Travelling on this road you will be covered from head to toe with a fine red dust. Houay Dokmai is about 2 hours north of Vientiane, one of these faceless dusty, long stretched road villages. Scenic Vang Vieng still is another 3-4 hours north. Would there less potholes the trip could be made in 3 hours by bus, but nowadays it takes anything from 5 hours up to 8 hours to travel from Vientiane to Vang Vieng.
