Kundasang valley, a photo from Sabah, Est

Photographer's Note

Mostly populated by KadazanDusun people, Kundasang is one of the most popular tourist destination for visitors to Mt Kinabalu Park. This is an early morning view of Kundasang valley from our resort lodging house. Taken at the carpark balcony of the lodge as soon as I woke up and made my exit with the camera. It was a great morning with clouds floating across the valley. Such a pity that this good sunshine did not accompany us during our mountain summit climb on 7th March.

Kundasang valley is mostly agriculture farming where fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers are grown. It is just a few kilometers away from Mt Kinabalu Park HQ, and is along the way to Mesilau Trail which is new but longer route to the summit, and is more scenic route. Due to the high altitude here at about 1800m, the temperature is cool and very comfortable. For its cool surrounding, we chose to stay here for a night on our drive from Semporna to Kudat's Tip of Borneo.

wonderful landscape and excellent capture with a swift (flying bird) in the foreground :o) i love composition with the fog, the wooded slopes and the clouds... The buildings in the foreground look as from another mystic world... Nice natural colours and perfect sharpness. You have done an excellent job here! I am really impressed.

This is an excellent landscape shot with plenty of detail to admire such as, for example, the flying bird. The clouds are fantastic and only possible in mountain areas of the tropics. It is a beautiful photo which you did very well.

The thumbnail did not look impressive Bill. In full view, it is breathtaking. Those people in the valley down there must be breathing fresher air, consuming better food and living a better life. Life in the countryside is definitely easier than that of urban dwellers. There is nothing like the countryside and all the greenery. One of nature’s little wonders. The air is fresher and cleaner and the views are spectacular. Birds singing are like heaven on earth. Total Bliss.

But living in the countryside also has its disadvantages. The most noticeable is that there is no proper construction, such as bridges and street lamps, which provides some inconvenience based on my experience. There are also only quite a few numbers of buildings, which means fewer buildings to go to.

Hi Bill,
The misty fog adds excellent texture and a mystic mysterious feel to as the village in the valley is just becoming visible from your mountain perch.
The dense tropical forest contrast nicely with the blue sky.

i have visited the Kinabalu and seen the Kundasang area. you depict it well. The misty morning and beautiful and cooling forest. The houses in the foreground give a good impact and the pestel blue sky make is so pleasing to view.

Hello Bill, How very different from your last posting where everything was very flat, very clear and very blue. We seem to have soared up into the air, along with the bird , and now all is greenand misty. Fantastic POV and great timing to catch the bird in just the right position.

The mountains between the layers of clouds are assets to the composition. The bird in the middle of the cloud is a complement to the composition. The light has a good effect on the colors. The scenery is giving a mysterious and peaceful sensation. Have a nice day.
