Devotion in Penang, a photo from Pulau Pinang, Ouest

Photographer's Note

Actually there are two prayer hall in the Dharmikarama Burmese Temple in Penang, the more elaborate is at the entrance while the other one is in the back next to the lush park. This hall is not as bright as the other one, even more peaceful and better suited for meditation I think.

This hall certainly is less impressive in architecture, but the main Buddha statue as seen in the picture is strangely beautiful and serene. It could be a female and if it's not, then it's close enough. Again the peacefulness is only disturbed by a bell once in a while and the whispering of people.

Hi Urs!
The Buddha and the decoration seem a little different, but the atmosphere is really like the one we find in the temples of Myanmar!
Nice photo!I like the way you framed it and you got a good light with the use of the flash!

This photo reminds me my Thai album and a temples of Bangkok and Pattaya. The same scene, the same POV, the same colours. Well done.

Olá Urs, I agree that the statue of buddha is very graceful and shinning beautifully. The artwork of the whole background is impressive and wonderful. You did a great capture with the inclusion of the devoted couple standing with humility on their knees.

Hello Urs,

I just made a short stop at your gallery, and was happy to see that you've been very active. This is one of the finest 'private moment shots' I've seen — in this case in quiet meditation of the young couple in front of a statue of the Buddha. I intend to make many more stops at your wonderful collection, but after aI return to the States.

After a lightning quick trip to India and Thailand (with Phuket having replaced the original site of Bangkok), we are about to head back to the United States. It will take four separate flights spanning 30-hours (Phuket to Bangkok, Bangkok to Delhi, Delhi to Chicago, and Chicago to Washington, DC) to get us back home. But it has been a wonderfully edifying trip. I gave a talk in Chandigarh and another one in Phuket. Yesterday we saw Phi Phi Lay Island, along with a couple of others. Between June 11 and July 22 I've shot around 2000 photos.
