This very colorful grasshopper with the scientific name Valanga nigricornis is not supposed to be in a housing complex and certainly not around our house in Alor Star, but at this sunny day he just came. Traditionally this yellow-green locust is eating by locals living near the jungle as an excellent source of protein.

This colorful insect starts its life cycle of 200 to 250 days from the egg to nymphs and finally becomes an adult grasshopper, which is a pest for the farmers, eating the young leaves of rice plants as well the leaves of rubber and palm tree seedlings. Due to pest eradication the turmeric grasshopper how the locals call the Valanga nigricornis, has become almost distinct in Malaysia.

Salut Urs,
Bien prise la photo de cette sauterelle, chez-nous nous sommes habitués de les voir vertes. L'arrière-plan qui ressemble à des feuilles de cactus est superbe et belle harmonie de couleurs entre le vert et le peities feuilles pourpres.
