Photographer's Note

9.01a.m. - This shot was taken at the market in Sibu, Sarawak. The marketplace is a modern building and provided good facilities for hawkers to sell their goods. The varieties of goods on sale are wide and catered for all your daily grocery needs. Like everywhere else the atmosphere in the morning is busy and noisy. I was hunting for a local variety of black olive which they call “buah dabi” here or “ambayau” in Brunei and Limbang when I came across these neat rows of chickens waiting for customers to take them away. It is an interesting and unusual style of packaging and I must say it managed to attract my attention if not the other shoppers. These chickens are reared to lay eggs and now that their egg laying days are over they are to end up in the pot – talking about fairness and freedom of choice!

You can see a shot of the black olive on sale and another of the market building in WS.
