Photographer's Note
Even some of the remote Akkha villages around Kyaing Tung aren't without elements of modernity...

This looks almost like a picture painted in oil. I think it's because of the colours on the one hand and some Medievalish look of the woman. I could call this picture “Mary with her Son, Asian version”…

Hi Caleb
Splendid picture. I particularly like the light on the the kid and the woman, that give a brilliant skin and nice colors to the clothes.

Hi Caleb!
The title is an excellent match with the scene! The juxtaposition of the basic lifestyle and of the satelite dish is indeed a comical shock. The soft light is beautiful. The boy looks like a small Buddha, and has a really cute expression of surprise.
Congratulations
Merry Christmas to you!

Hello Caleb
There is so much to see in the one image - the old and the new, and the housing and the clothing. I love the mother's elaborate headgear. Then there is the very cute kid. Thanks for sharing, Marlene

Yes its amazing to see these satellite dishes in such remote places, you think the people would be more concerned with other basics.
Nice light on this simple piece of street photography

Hi Caleb
For once, the wires are not to be cloned! Nice contrast of the 2 different worlds.
