The Kaladan river, a photo from Rakhine, Sud

Photographer's Note

What is fascinating when you get to Sittwe harbour is that there is almost no motorboats. You get plunged a few hundred years back in time, in a very active harbour with mostly rowing boats and sailboats and, for most of them, both at the same time. Going up the Kaladan river to Mrauk U, a 6 hours trip, we met only such boats and bamboo rafts. We were also lucky enough to see Irrawady dolphins jumping here and there in the river.

Very beautiful view of this old boat. I haven't seen such a boat with rowing and sailing at the same time. It is quite broad. I like delicate coloursa of sunrise.

Taken into the light you have managed the exposure very well. These conditions always produce an attractive glitter on the water from the reflection of the sun, but it is not always easy to capture in camera as you have here. Interesting boat with both oars and a sail. Well done

Great minimalist shot - says a lot with just a few elements. On top of which, it's almost monochromatic - but just enough color to give a minimalist effect there, too.

Hello Vincent,
This simple composition shot against the direction of light must be difficult to manage, but it turns out well. The glittering sea becomes a feature and also lit up the underside of the sail.

That must be a beautiful morning and sunrise experience to see dolphins. I had a similar evening when the slow boat cut through the sea and dolphines and flying fish were at each side of the boat. Such a splendid moment to enjoy!

This is a wonderful capture of the sunrise mood with this sailboat under the light beaming down. Great work.

Amazing, It look more like big lake than a river, I am expectiing to see flowing water. In country like this time seem to stand still somewhat as far as modern machine and equipment goes, but that is what make country like Burma and Laos more interesting and their culture is preserved better. Excellent shot, love the tranquility, the peacefulness, the way the sun reflected in the water, the only one minor thing in the composition is that the boat perhaps a bit too center and the horizon is also almost right in the middle. Thanks.

La sensation d'espace est extraordinaire, on dirait que c'est un lac plutôt qu'une rivière. Une belle compo, très simple, mais très attirante, avec le voilier et sa voile bizarre en contrejour qui ressemble un peu la forme du reflet du soleil.

Merveilleux contre-jour avec des couleurs douces qui hésitent entre bleu et or. La forme de ce bateau est inhabituelle pour nous, européens et très belle. Le cadrage est perfait. Beaucoup de charme et une grande sérénité se dégagent de ton image.

superbes lumières qu'il fallait savoir capturer, un contre jour efficace duquel tu as retiré le soleil pour ne garder que ses reflets. Très beau si ce n'est que l'horizon penche un peu vers la gauche.
