Photographer's Note

Taken at the foot of the hill on which Swayambhunath temple is situated, this truly is a nothing special scene that, except for the alphabet, could have been photographed in almost any country. Maybe not in one of the most visited tourist spots and by one of the most venerated temples in any country... but this is Nepal so different rules apply...

What attracted me to take a photo is the Coca-Cola ad with a picture of the Swayambhunath stupa. A symbol of a centuries-old eastern culture displayed together with one of the most widely-known signs of westernisation.

When I was taking the shot, I only wanted the "Coca-Cola shop" and meant to crop the rest off. But later I decided to keep the barber's door as well.
