Photographer's Note

This picture was taken at a school for severely handicapped children in Pokhara. Most of the children are suffering from muscular dystrophy, a degenerative disease that wastes the muscles.They spend periods of every day at this walking frame. They pull themselves up and force themselves to walk backwards and forwards,in order to build up their muscles and improve their mobility.It is very moving to see their determination. The home is run by a local organization with help from Handicap International.The staff here are dedicated and the children full of courge.

Indeed muscular dystrophy, a degenerative disease that wastes the muscles, very very serious.
I am very glad that you this image bringing, and show to the world, handicapped children become often forget.

This brings tears to my eyes. The pride in this childs face and the happiness! I have a disabled daughter and I have seen this expression so many times. Thank you for posting this.

Excellent reportage picture, Kevin. Your notes are always very good describing the essential for us to understand the image. Cute expression of the little girl and nice to see the boy looking at you. I also like the detail of the red bucket in the BG.

Good to know that such place exists to help the children. The photo is really good, with a very good composition. What really gets my attention here is their happy faces, in spite of the problems they have. It takes a lot of courage to face problems this way. Good work!

interesting capture, very good double portrait!
and an interesting, good Note. I think that such photos are necessary! people must see them.
I often think: how much willpower disabled and handicapped people often have to live - as compared to so many "normal" people who never cease to complain about their life and are weaker than those who have no legs or arms or who can hardly walk...
