Photographer's Note

A craftsman of great dignity and talent with a mission, who was in deep concentration and appeared to be totally oblivious to the things going on around him.

The art of pottery making has a long history in Nepal where the skills have been handed down from one generation to the next, and there are entire families that trace their heritage side by side with this tradition & profession. The Newaris who are the original settlers of Kathmandu Valley have been in this trade for centuries and this tradition is alive and well in Potters' Square in Bhaktapur, the producing centre since the fifteenth century. Pottery has a very significant meaning to their daily life, apart from normal household use, pottery are needed from birth ceremony to death and every ritual requires different type of clay pots for different purposes.

It's indeed hard to imagine their life without pottery .......
