Photographer's Note

I walked a lot from central part of Kazan to the Muslim quarters where there are lots of beautiful mosques. The most important of them was Azimov Mosque, built in 1890 and receiving the name of the merchant who paid the bill. After revolution it was closed as a religious building and used for other purposes. This mosque is surrounded by an industrial area, anyway it is a marvelous building, unfortunately, or not, it was being restored and the precious minaret was covered with scaffoldings.
There is a legend saying famous writer Isaac Asimov took his name from this mosque, but it isn't right.

Caminhei bastante desde a área central até o bairro muçulmano da cidade, onde estão lindas mesquitas. A mais bela de todas era a Mesquita Azimov, erguida em 1890, quando recebeu o nome do rico industrial que pagou as obras. Depois da revolução ela foi fechada e o prédio usado para outros fins. Essa mesquita fica numa área industrial, mas é um prédio magnífico, infelizmente, para mim, o minarete da mesquita estava todo cheio de andaimes e o prédio estava em restauro.
Há uma lenda que diz que o famoso escrito Isaac Asimov tirou seu nome dessa mesquita, mas isso é mentira.
