Photographer's Note

The Upper Monastery of Saint Peter was probably founded in 1320 by the first religious leader living in the city.
During 17th, relatives of the mother side of Peter, the Great, used the place as a cemetery of the family, creating their own baroque style that got the name of the family (Naryshkin).
In 1812, during the invasion os Napoleon the monastery was looted, the sepulcres broken and some people of the city was shoot in the walls of the monastery because they had got fire in the city.
After communist revolution, in 1918, the monastery was transformed in a community residential area, but the churches worked until 1929, when the priests and some members of the church were shoot. The churches were used as other purposes as a plant of tractors and library and the place became again a monastery in 1992.
The monastery has ramparts around and some parts of the old ramparts got pavilions facing the street, like this one. Pay attention in the columns around the windows, they are typical of Russian style, originally created in timber during middle ages.

O Mosteiro do Alto de São Pedro foi fundado provavelmente em 1320 pelo primeiro líder religioso que decidiu viver em Moscou.
Durante o século 17, o lado materno da família de Pedro, o Grande, decidiu fazer do mosteiro seu cemitério, transformando a arquitetura do local e criando um estilo barroco com o nome da família (Naryshkin).
Em 1812 as tropas de Napoleão destruíram e saquearam o mosteiro e ali fuzilaram alguns moscovitas acusados de terem ateado fogo na cidade.
Em 1918, depois da revolução comunista, o local foi transformado em um cortiço, mas as igrejas funcionaram até 1929, quando os padres foram fusilados juntamente com alguns fiéis. Nessa época as igrejas ganharam outros usos e viraram fábrica de trator e biblioteca. O local só voltou a ser mosteiro em 1992.
O mosteiro é cercado de muralhas, contudo, muitas delas foram transformadas em pavilhões com fachadas dando para a rua, como é o caso desse prédio aqui. Reparem nas colunas ao redor das janelas, elas são tipicamente russas e tem origem nas igrejas de madeira da idade medieval.
