Early Morning Fisherman, a photo from Bedok, Est

Photographer's Note

Another photo from yesterday morning trip to Singapore's East Coast. The jetty along the parkway is always teeming with people fishing, cyclers, rollerbladers, and on this morning a guy with a camera....

My aim was to photograph silhouettes against the sunrise, but managed a few shots such as this capturing the sunrise, but also managing to capture some detail in the forground. I like this shot as the railing comes in from the left, leads the eye to the end of the pier, before cutting out of the frame to the right.

I agree with you Dan that this railing actually positions the man in the framework giving depth to the photo. For f4 you certainly have alot in focus. Do you recall at what focal length you had on this scene? I like it Dan.

Hey Dan. Another impressive sunrise shot from this place. The man is essential here and you're right about the fence as a leading line. If it were up to me I'd stop the lens down more to get more DOF to get the foreground sharper. Nice one Dan.

Hi Dan,
You are right about the graphism, especially the railing. The perspective is superbly chosen. I am most impressed with the clarity here, particularly the jovial man. The exposure level seems just right. One advantage of the 5D - and the 20D for that matter - is their ability to handle low light conditions. The prosaic and textured sky completes a pleasing scene. Well captured, Dan.

You achieved your aim to capture a sunrise with foreground detail. I like this for the reasons you point out yourself. The sky colours are muted and unusual, but very attractive.
