Photographer's Note

The final stages in the evolution of the historical civic centre took place in the 1920's and 30's when the colonial government of Singapore embarked on an ambitious building program. The Municipal building was constructed in 1926 and housed the Muncicpal Council. On 22 September 1951, Singapore was proclaimed a city by Royal Charter, and the Municipal Building was thereafter called the City Hall.

The City Hall is eyewitness to all of Singapore's historical events, and is situated in front of the famous Padang.
