Photographer's Note
A monk sits in quiet solitude awaiting the next person to give alms in Mae Hong Son, Thailand.
Mae Hong Son is located near the Thai- Burmese border, and I expected it to be a large city, much as Chiang Mai is. The monks are very warm and friendly in Mae Hong Son town, and it seems that very few visitors enjoy the temples here for some reason.
Mae Hong Son can be reached in 8 hours from Chiang Mai by bus, or an hour by air.

Nice shot John! You've captured this scene of contemplation well - however the background is what makes the image stand out to me. Colours are nice, and the range of lighting is interesting too. That said there are a couple of things I'd consider adjusting - firstly the base that he's resting on looks marginally rotated, and seems to have a bit of barrel distortion too. If you're using Photoshop CS2 that's fixable in Filter/Distort/LensCorrection, otherwise I suggest you download PTlens. I also find the bright light in the top right somewhat distracting, it might be better if you tone it down a little. I think I'd like a little more light on the monks face too - perhaps experiment with Dodge/Burn in LABcolor on the L channel. As a final touch, although very much a matter of personal taste, I suggest a little sharpening to bring out the detail you've captured. That said, it's a lovely shot :D

I am surprised at the lack of critiques here, because I think this is a gorgeous shot. The backlighted yellow curtain is the obvious highlight of the shot, and it nicely divides the frame into two parts, which contrast with each other both visually and symbolically. The light on the figures and flowers in the right part is very beautiful, and even if you'd leave the entire left part off, it could be a picture on its own. But the true jewel, for me at least is the left part, with this spot of bright light on the monk's head, while his face is in the deep shadow. To me this is an essence of Buddhism (the man is not so important, the divine light is), and connects well with your title. Outstanding work, with several layers of meaning. My compliments.
Take care
Alexander

I agree with before as it is also for me the best photo of your serie (at least from what I've seen)
Indeed light is a bit harsh and strong in some way, but digital cant handle this huge light contrasts.
Your composition is perfect, and the light hitting the monks heads is what made the shot.
I could only wish some more contrast overall the interior scene.
Congrats !
