Samarkand is a treasure trove of Islamic architecture and for many centuries, a major stop along The Silk Road and it’s a crossroad between Europe and Asia.
This is a closeup up view of turquoise fluted dome & truncated minaret of the huge 12th century Sher-Dor Madrasah in Registan square.

These vibrant tiles appear at every turn in Samarkand....

I know it's unfashionable these days on TE to be in any way critical in writing critiques, but I'll buck the trend! In a minimalist image such as this, composition is so important. Thus I'd want to see the "knob" on the top of the dome not touching the edge of the frame, and vertical verticals! But it's still a lovely close up image of this gorgeous architecture. Hope you don't mind a 'real' critique.

I love the the details. The colors are beautiful and the workmanship that went into the construction of this medrese is obvious. 👍🏻👍🏻 Two points, though minor: the photo seems to be tilting to the left a bit, and i would love to see the top of the ornament on top of the dome.

I read Will's critique - good for him to proved a 'real' critique about the composition, and I have to agree with his thoughts. It's not too often we hear such things...however, if you straightened the left side to make it vertical, how would that affect the right sided dome? anyways, lovely shot full of color and visual interest. cheers

What a gem ! We have domes and towers in the west, but rarely with such bright, coloured tiles !
I love your close crop, with a nice contrast between the rounded dome and the vertical tower.
Despite its richness, your picture is quite minimalistic with 3 main colours : yellow, green and blue.
A greaty capture !
