Photographer's Note

Arenal Volcano is within Costa Rica's national park of the same name. Arenal is an active andesitic stratovolcano about 90 kilometers northwest of the capitol, San Jose. It is relatively young geologically, estimated to be less than 7,500 years old. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly and continued until 2010, but since then no explosions reported.

In additional to volcanic activity this national park is popular with 'birders' with up to 850 species identified here, including the exotic Resplendent Quetzal. The hiking trails are fun and adventurous going through tropical rain forests.

Hi Ray,
That's a very expansive view, and the mist adds a lot to the drama. In fact, it looks almost as if the mist is emanating from the volcano itself, the sleeping giant awakening. Lovely shot of this place, a new one for me to learn of today.

A high number of species lives here as the rare quetzal
I like the mist on the rain forest

Hi Ray!
I have never been to Central America... but Costa Rica is certainly on my list of places to be visited! I love, volcanoes, for example, and it'd be nice to visit that one there!
As for the Convict Lake, yes I read about how it's got its name! I'd also love to visit it in another season!
