The education in Dominican Republic is quite costly, the wages are average $200 per month and the cost of elemantary education is $30 per month, most children go to school for few years, but many parents don't even have money for that and a significant part of the population (some estimate it to be 30%) can't read and write.

Sad statistics and shameful for the rest of us who take such things as reading and writing for granted and who make a big thing about the paltry aid our governments give to poorer nations.Without getting into politics, it's not Cuba, is it, where I assume the statistics would be considered a national disgrace.Anyhow, a most interesting POV which I think works well.
