Photographer's Note

He is on his way to top of tree to cut down the coconuts.

When you look at this photo, think about the strength in arms, shoulders, hands, feet and legs that is required to go up these coconut palms. The fellow in the photo is 15-20' from the ground and is primarily keeping himself up there with his legs and feet.

Think too how tough the skin on the feet must be and how many years of going barefoot were necessary to make them as tough as they are.

Boys that live in the "campo", the rural areas, start young climbing these trees. I've seen young boys scoot up and down these palms like monkeys.

Ask yourself if you could do it, even if you wanted to. I know that I couldn't
