Photographer's Note
This picture was taken at the St. Vincent Botanic Gardens in Kingstown. They are the oldest botanical gardens in the Caribbean and were originally established in 1763.
To achieve this picture I used a fast shutter speed and a wide aperture to get the flower in focus and make the lilies blurred. The original image was much wider but I cropped down to leave just the main points of interest.
This picture is different from my usual posts as I have not submitted a nature photo before. I hope you like it.
I have also added a second pic on the same theme:
Pollination II

Jonathan, macro photos are a bit of a passion of mine and your's is fantastic. I like the fast shutter speed to get those bees included. Perhaps a fraction faster would have been even better to get that one bee nearest the lily in greater focus. The colours are splendid and make the shot attractive. The bees make it interesting!

Beautiful, colors are splendid and make the shot very attractive. You have got here a perfect DOF, flower is very sharp and clear, perfect!!. For bees, they are out of focus, but I know it's so difficult to freeze them, you may have tried an even faster shutter speed to see. Anyway very nice macro, well done

Flowers are not so good in the market here hé Jonathan but this one is really sharp and deep blue colored towards a nice out of focus green background. Your focus distance was really messured for the flower itself. Perfect for TF (TrekFlower).

Capturing just about anything in motion or in action, at work pretty much a lot more interesting and informative than just simply still.Focusing is sharp here and the backlighting so defining the petals. The blurred bees coasting to land around the lily just add that more interest.

Hi Jonathan,
It's really enjoyable to see this photo. Pretty good work! Sharp and neat and vivid...marvellous! The lily is very well captured. And three bees came at the same time is just amazing! I was always trying to get a dynamic plant shot such as bird and bees within, but found it really difficult.
Anyway, congratulations for this nice shot and TFS, good night,
Mi

Hi Jonathan
what a great close up of the busy bees.
The colours on the flower are great. It is a good choice to make the flower the focus point, and then just let the bees be a little blurred.
Nice work

Wonderful photo with a very well working DOF. The colours are absolutely sublime, the different tones of purple on the flower are very nice. High grade of detail with fine sharpness. Good composition and crop with the flower slightly off center. I like the motion blur on the bees. Very well performed macro shot!

woooww! very nice shot. Thank you for sharing it.
Recently, many scientists are saying that bees are getting lost because of different reasons such as global warming, toxic chemicals, etc. A few days ago, on National Geographic channel I watched a program which was about bees getting lost. I learned about something strange and funny. I think it was in China, a part of it, all the bees got lost and villagers created "Manual Pollination System". Yes, that's true! They were doing bees job. One by one they were doing pollination to the flowers on the fruit trees. Villagers were saying it's a very hard job and they don't know for how long they can continue doing it. A person can manually do it approximetly to 30 trees but only one bee can do it to hundreds of trees. Therefore, this is a very meaningful photo of them. There they are worker bees, doing their job for free and perfectly!
