A closer view of Jale Beach showing one of the distinctive circular concrete bomb shelters constructed all over the country. They were built in preparation for an 'immanent' invasion of then Communist Albania by Western Europe and Nato. But former dictator Enver overestimated the strategic importance Europe placed on tiny Albania. These structures and their rusting remains can be seen all over the country.

Hello Chris,
A beautiful bay with a very popular beach.
Perhaps a quirky view of mine. But the bunkers are part of Albania's special history while both large modern buildings on top of the green cape annoy me more.
Good composition. Beautiful colour of the water.

Hello Chris,
The bunker is the one detail that makes this beach different from any other Mediterranean beach. At least this one is discreetly placed on top of a hill. I saw bunkers lined up all along the popular beach at Pogradec on Lake Ohrid. The water is as beautiful as ever and the photo is nicely composed with the beach covering most of three sides.

Fantastic sea-water colors from light-turquoise to diff. tones of blue.The bay is a great place for seaside vacation, as we can see several hotels built around the rocky shoreline.

Bonjour Chris,

La courbe de la plage envoie mon regard au loin ce qui donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la plage et de l'abri. J'apprécie les différentes teintes de couleurs de l'eau. Bonne journée.

Hello Chris, I have heard about these bunkers all over Albania, but in fact, I haven't seen so many of them. Here it is well visible. Beach as beach, but the emerald water looks very inviting.

Hi Chris,
Yes it is quite ironic that the Communist countries expected an invasion while now it is Russia which is still invading other countries like Ukraine or China threatening Taiwan.
Nice beach though and I suppose it is off the beaten track. However, Albania becomes more and more popular among Polish tourists who enjoy the nice beaches and low prices.
I have yet to get there someday,

Hi Chris,

A nice colourful beach shot with the addition of a curious bomb shelter. I suspect that the former dictator was a megalomaniac who thought he and his country were great and supremely important, whereas most people in western Europe and Nato would have said "Albania, where's that?"
