Photographer's Note
This picture was taken more or less around the corner from where I live, yet there is a hidden story. That is: I didn't really know what this building was until recently.
---
DEURNE is the second largest district of Antwerp. It has some 80,000 inhabitants and is situated to the north of the city. It is a working class district, a down-to-earth sort of place. It's also known for its parks, including the Rivierenhof, which is Antwerp's biggest park.
Deurne consists of two more or less seperate parts: Deurne Noord (home to the famous Royal Antwerp football ground) and Deurne Zuid, which includes the Antwerp airport and the Boekenbergpark...and that's where this picture was taken.
---
THIS PICTURE shows a rather intriguing construction in the Boekenberg Park in Deurne. In fact, it is the base of what used to be Chinese tower, a folly built around 1800.
The tower was tore down in the late 1950's, with its base left abandonned. Now it has been restored and you can even rent it for small parties and events.
---
In the WORKSHOP I'll include an old bl/w postcard to give you an impression of what it was.

Hallo Benny,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Benny
A quaint structure plus the striking sunshine colours which can look extraordinarily, cheerful and very refreshing to see. The marriage of blue sky is much more than satisfactory. Gorgeous and tx to your useful info

Hello Benny,
:-) you live just around the corner, you just found out recently about this odd looking building ( I mean stand out building ). It did not gets your attention !
The history of this building is rather ...... yeah, intriguing ( as you put it ). What's on earth , the Chinese got to do or influenced , around 1800 in Deurne :-)
It was a pity that the tower was tore down. It would be a very beautiful sight in the park, for sure.
I'm sure, you'll noticed that long time ago.
Btw, you've caught this building, just only the sunlight shining on it and the surrounding of the trees. Tbh, I think the roof is a bit 'saai', restored back the 'Tower' :-)
Thanks for sharing - around the corner discovery.
Loong
