History:

Saint Cornelius Church Aalter centre.

The interior of the church, like the church building itself, has a predominantly neo-gothic character. This is mainly the result of the renovations in 1903, for which the plans were drawn up by architect Goethals. Twelve beautiful neo-Gothic stained-glass windows by Gust Ladon Ganton-Defoin and Albert Mestdagh adorn the choirs and chapels of the cross.
The furniture includes a neo-gothic pulpit (1906), a communion rail (1907) and neo-gothic main and side altars (1907-1909) designed by E. Van den Eynde, an old oak communion rail (1722) by Fr. Desseyn, four oak confessional chairs, a partly preserved organ case in rococo style (1754) by P. Van Peteghem, a baptismal font (18th century), a crucifixion painted on copper (1923-1934) designed by F. Coppejans, a bust of Saint Cornelius (18th century) and some blazons in the choir.

Hello John,
It's a fine interior and you captured it with a very good light. The benches, columns and vaults give the view surprisingly nice depth, considering the short distance.
Colours and sharpness are also perfect.

This is a beautiful interior. I especially like the vaulted, brick ceilings. The pulpit is also very artistic. This might be a smaller interior, but there is a lot of beauty to appreciate. Take care!

Hello John,

This is an excellent interior shot, with good light and the details beautifully captured.
I really like how you have made such a feature of the arches, leading us around the interior, like huge, open doorways.

The steps, leading to the pulpit, are well included and make another link with upper areas of the church.

You mentioned below many people who renovated this catchy antique architecture, but you forgot to mention John Maenhout for the superb inner depiction, and in particular for the stained-glass windows that does not appear over exposed!!

Een heel mooie en heldere foto van het kerkinterieur. De warme tinten van het hout en de bakstenen gewelven zijn heel aangenaam, zeker in combinatie met de lichtere bogen. Het licht was ook heel aangenaam.

The interior of this church is beautiful, I like the contrast between the brick of the vaults and the white of the arches, the stained glass windows thus in the distance seem magnificent.
