Photographer's Note

In times of corona many people have (re)discoverd the joy and benefits of going out walking. In Belgium many of the best nature locations are protected by Natuurpunt and most of them feature several great walks, some family friendly, some a bit more challenging, some both.

This is a picture from the Blankaart nature reserve. We'd been there before and in fact I've already posted a few pictures from this location here, but it's always great to go back.

BLANKAART is a wetland area located in Woumen near Diksmuide in West-Flanders. Around a vast pond is a large wetland which is home to rare birds. The area is protected by Natuurpunt, Belgium's prime nature conservation organisation, who always do a good job. The visitor centre is located in a castle on the edge of the domain.

Hello Benny,
It's a bit in John's style, and yet not quite. No long view of a canal but showing the water disappearing among the reeds behind a bend. But it has the clarity and sharpness in common with the photos by our elder friend.

Het is een heel mooi gebied, ik heb het kasteel nog gepost op TE.
Inderdaad, ik zie bijna 70% meer wandelaars en fietsers, dan voor corona tijd. (Ik ben de ganse dagen op de baan, 1300km per maand)
Maar waar moeten de mensen heen, niets is open maar thuis zitten is ook geen optie.
Die plaats dat u heeft gefotografeerd moet ik geweest zijn, maar zie dit beeld niet meer voor mijn ogen, (oude ogen)
Mooi diepte beeld met een schitterende wolken lucht.
Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Looks quite idyllic, pastel colours, blue sky with just the right amount of clouds, sunshine and a stretch of water perfect for boats and kayaks.
In Britain this week everyone seems to be interested only in spending time in the pubs. My local park was almost empty this morning. Can't complain - more space for me! ;-)

Belgium has the same height as the trees around the pond. Is this also managed by the state? I regret not being able to travel to rural Belgium even though I traveled to Brussels in the old days.

As Gert said, this photo reminds me of John's style, and at first I thought it was one of his. :-) There's something very attractive about this simple view. I like the color of the reeds, and the clear division between the different elements: water, reeds, trees, sky. That large, puffy cloud is cool, too. Take care!

A beautiful and tranquil scene, such wonderful deep colours and clarity. You've certainly done this lovely nature reserve justice in this photograph. A well chosen moment- the water and sky are mouth watering! Glorious nature, well composed.
