The Koelewei Mill in the Belgian city of Bruges is located on the Kruisvest, on the edge of the city center. The mill has its construction year in 1996 and functions as a corn mill.

History

The mill is a reconstruction of the Bosterhout mill. This was originally in Meulebeke. The mill was built there in 1765-1766 and continued to function there until 1958.
For the construction of a new road one would move the mill about fifty meters. When the mill was disassembled, however, the plan did not go through and the mill was sold to the city of Bruges. In 1996 the city of Bruges rebuilt the mill and called it the Koelewei mill.

Joehoe...ik ben eerst om te juichen bij deze prachtige foto, John. Prachtige weerspiegeling, heerlijke compositie. Nooit van Koelewei gehoord, ben geneigd om daar een -n achter te zetten. Kom van dat dak af!

Interesantan i lep pogled, dobar tekst ...
Lepo pokazano, dobra perspektiva i kontrast, lepe boje, lepo uhvacen trenutak.
Lep refleks na vodi i veliki slep, lepo drvece na obali i stari mlin u pozadini.

The mill view is fine but it is the massive barge that dominates and along with everything else provides good reflections.

Hello John,

Ha! Ha! Meulebeke's loss was Bruges' gain!
It looks graceful and iconic in its setting.
What a perfect day for taking a photograph of the canal and its reflections. The water is still so the reflections are steady, mirror-like!
The barge is immense. It makes a fine f/g feature and creates a great linear perspective.
The scene is so iconic of both Belgium and the Netherlands.

Again, you have written a fascinating and very informative note - and I am so pleased that this mill has now been rebuilt in its new location.

And a fine photograph to accompany your note. The canal makes a very strong diagonal in this perfect composition and the mill is "underlined" by the enormously long black and yellow barge lying before it. The reflections on the calm water are delightful as are the bare trees silhouetted against the cloudy sky.

Gorgeous soft light and colours, perfect exposure and excellent detail and sharpness.

Saw several long river-barges while visiting Germany, but this one score them all. An excellent combined view of the canal action with the boat, the windmill and the trees on the background.

Salut John,

The placement of the windmill about where the funnel of a steamship would be is mildly amusing as it looks like the big ship is trying to get up the canal using wind power. But the fg bridge would indicate the ship is going nowhere. Tfs!

Hallo John,
Ik herken deze plaats maar meestal liep ik langs de overzijde van het water. Ik stel vast dat deze kant een prachtige fotomogelijkheid biedt.
Het water was heel kalm zodat de weerspiegelingen bijna perfect zijn.
De lange rij weerspiegelde raampjes van de boot zorgt voor een grafisch effect.
Gelukkig is de windmolen heel wat hoger gelegen en valt zijn weerspiegeld beeld geheel onder dat van de boot.
Mooi gedaan!

Hallo John, good idea to rebuild this mill. It was used in the past when machines didn t exist yet. It belongs to the regional patrimony. The boats moored in the canal are reflecting on the water, it creates a beautiful visual effect. Fine colors, good image quality, instructive photo note, regards.
